Board Elections Are Coming!

You can help shape the future of AIGA Iowa!

Great leaders make great organizations. You can help determine the future of AIGA Iowa by nominating its leaders. Who do you think would be great? Who is already leading the Iowa design community in a positive direction? Could it be you? Now is the time to get those great leaders in an organization where they can have a greater impact.

NOMINATION

Do you know an individual that could help enhance the board’s leadership potential? Or do you yourself feel as if you could help improve AIGA Iowa? Self or peer nominations are welcome for all living within Iowa. Nominees need not be an AIGA member at time of nomination but would be required to hold the appropriate membership status before becoming a board member.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Nominees must be an AIGA member in good standing at the Supporter level or higher, or must join the organization prior to becoming a board member.

Obligations

  • Attending monthly board meetings
  • Participating in events
  • Fulfilling requirements as outlined in the position descriptions

Terms
Individual serve a two year term, July to June.

Time Commitment
Each position requires a different amount of commitment, on average we estimate roughly 10-15 hours a month.

OPEN POSITIONS

Priority is given to those candidates whose interests and skill sets match currently available positions. During your 2-year term, you may have the option to change positions, according to your interests and the needs of the board. Here are the descriptions for the following positions up for election.

Public Relations Director
Promotes AIGA chapter activities/events and heightens our visibility in the design community and public eye. Develops and coordinates an appropriate marketing and public relations strategy for driving messages through distribution channels to our target audiences. Creates, tests and deploys MailChimp-based monthly e-newsletters. Works with the programming directors to coordinate other communications and event promotions.

Social Media Director
Provides ongoing content for AIGA Iowa’s Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts and maintains connections with members and nonmembers statewide. Works with the Web and Programming Directors to coordinate communications for events and AIGA-related news; specifically in the creation of Facebook event pages. Executes onsite, live tweeting and posting at all chapter events.

Sponsorship Director
Identifies potential sponsors or partners for events based on budget and sponsorship needs. Solicits monetary and in-kind donations for local chapter events. Provides potential sponsors with information on AIGA and the mutual benefits of sponsoring events.

Education Director
Serves as the connection between the Iowa chapter and our student groups and local educators. Works to introduce students to AIGA and promote formation of student groups at local schools. Utilizes resources provided by the national office to stay current on educational issues and disseminates pertinent information to the local chapter and student groups. Aids student group boards to create their own programming.

Web Director
Gathers event information and builds webpages for chapter events, AIGA-related news and member spotlights. Builds online registration via etouches for chapter events. Maintains accuracy of information on the chapter website and works with National regarding updates.

Membership Director
Promotes AIGA to nonmembers and seeks to gain group memberships. Sends membership letters to new, renewed and lapsed members. Works closely with Education Director on student group statuses. Stays current on any special membership rates for different times throughout the year and answer questions about all types of member levels and benefits.

Volunteers Director
Ensures photos and/or video are taken at every event and communicates with Social Media Liaison and Web Director to ensure post-event content is shared in a timely matter. Writes event recaps that appear in the News section of the chapter website and facilitates surveys at events. Archive Director is also in charge of compiling survey results and ensures all content is documented appropriately in Google Drive or Slack.

Archive Director
Solicits potential volunteers from chapter membership and local design professionals. Maintains and coordinates a list of volunteers and potential volunteers. Works with the Programming Director to fill staffing needs for various chapter events and activities. Coordinates with events committee on all upcoming volunteer needs and monthly events meetings.

Outreach Liason
Aims to spread our chapter programming and initiatives statewide and therefore help build a more widespread membership base. Along side the Sponsorship Director, identifies opportunities for partnerships. Helps promote design and AIGA Iowa in community activities through participation and involvement.

Design For Good Liason
Serves as a connection between the Iowa Chapter and the national Design for Good chapter liaisons. Stays current on ways to build and sustain design-driven social change.


Any design professional interested in participating in the chapter but unable to commit to a board position can join the Events Committee. Membership is not required to take part in the Events Committee. Please contact volunteer@aigaiowa.org to get involved.
