Prepare for your future as a designer with AIGA Iowa’s eighth annual Get a Job Boot Camp. First-time job seekers, internship-hunters, and soon-to-be-graduates will learn how to succeed in today’s challenging job market from seasoned design professionals and receive valuable feedback during a portfolio review session.

AIGA Member: $10 (includes lunch)
Nonmember: $60 (includes lunch + 1 year AIGA Contributor level membership)

10 – 10:30 a.m. - The job-hunting technique you don't learn in school: social media
What do you need to know to leverage social media in your job hunt? How can LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, Behance, and Facebook make or break the deal when it comes to searching for jobs, being noticed by employers ... and getting the job offer?

10:30 - 11 a.m.  - Design Your Life: Getting Work and Getting Paid
Learn the ins-and-outs of the traditional job hunt from the President and Creative Director of one of the Midwest’s best marketing and design agencies. You will learn the What-To-Dos and What-Not-To-Dos when looking for jobs, landing an interview, handling in-person and telephone interviews, and finally getting that long-desired offer letter.

11 - 11:15 a.m. - Break

11:15 - 11:45 a.m. - Panel of Professionals Discuss job hunting experiences with professionals who have found their career paths in untraditional ways. It is not always the perfect resume or cover letter that lands you the job (though that helps!). It could be volunteering, networking, persistence, internships. Find out about the roads less traveled towards success.

Discuss your portfolio 1-on-1 with up to three different local design professionals. Don’t have a portfolio? No big deal, just bring any work you have or participant in a small round table for a more informal Q&A.

2:45 – 3 p.m. - Closing + Prize Raffle
